John F. Horvath

John F. Horvath is an attorney and a principal in the Chicago based law firm of Horvath & Weaver, P.C. Throughout his thirty-plus year career, John has represented public warehouse operators, motor truck carriers, motor brokers, freight forwarders and their insurers on more than 4,000 warehouse and transportation claims and lawsuits involving such things as minor inventory shortages, multimillion dollar fire and theft losses and everything in between.

John has prepared and negotiated numerous storage agreements and transportation agreements and authored the standard terms and conditions which are currently approved by the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses.

John is a frequent lecturer on warehouse legal liability and cargo legal liability risks and insurance coverage. John has addressed two annual and three mid-year meetings of the American Warehouse Association (now IWLA); annual meetings of the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses, the Southeast Warehouse Association, the Southwest Warehouse Association, and the American Chain of Warehouses, Inc., among others. John has lectured extensively on the subject of warehouse legal liability, cargo legal liability risks and coverage to various insurance groups including the Inland Marine Underwriters Association, American Marine Insurance Forum, Western Loss Association, the New York Mariners Club, Inc. as well as in-house seminars for American Home Assurance Company, Kemper Insurance Company, Northbrook Property and Casualty Insurance Company, The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, and Crum & Forester Insurance Company.

John received his Bachelor of Science degree in commerce from DePaul University and, after receiving an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army, obtained his law degree from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. John founded what is now Horvath & Weaver, P.C. in 1987. The firm employs six attorneys and approximately 70 percent of the firm's practice involves warehouse, cargo and other logistics and related insurance matters.
